Within the GFM team you will: 

• Develop strong working relationships with Partners and Associates from other offices, interacting with them on a daily basis as an extension to their team to understand and assist on current deals and cases;
• Manage and liaise with internal and external clients to address points of relevance or concern, resolve queries and issues and report on progress;
• Manage the work of Legal Professionals within the team, ensuring that individuals are assigned to a particular matter have the required skills, knowledge and support to deliver outputs that are on time and of the highest quality;
• Advise and educate Legal Professionals on points of commercial and legal detail including quality checking their work;

What You Need To Succeed

As the Senior Legal Professional on the Global Financial Markets team you will;

• Possess a qualifying law degree or legal qualification.
• Have experience in a commercial environment such as a US, City, or major regional law firm or experience gained in-house with a bank or other financial institution. 
• Hold experience in an area related to capital markets (straight debt or derivatives or securitisation) is preferred - although applicants with a strong Finance background may also be considered.

As the Legal Advisor, you will be working within the Chief Executive Office, and will be expected to provide clear, concise and timely legal advice in response to requests for advice on matters relating to any aspect of the organisation’s extensive statutory remit.

Your New Role

In your new role as the Senior Company Lawyer, you will provide specialised senior legal support to General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel, CEO, Executives, and senior managers, to ensure that the business receives the legal and related support necessary to enable the effective delivery of their objectives and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks. 

The following reflects typical duties and is not intended to be a comprehensive description of all tasks: 

Legal advice 

• Provide legal advice and support to senior managers and executives across all operational areas and divisions of the business. 
• To provide practical advice on a diverse range of legal matters transecting multiple jurisdictions and in a highly regulated environment. 
• Collaborating with the business to achieve positive commercial outcomes and avoid unnecessary risk. 
• You will also be expected, were appropriate, to instruct and obtain specialist legal advice from external counsel and interpret and disseminate that advise in a practical and commercial way to aid business decisions. 
• Manage and advise on the prosecutions function. Working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the protection of staff and passengers and prosecution of perpetrators. 

Capital projects 

• Provide support to the General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel and project teams on bespoke, complex and high value capital projects. 
• Act as an integral part of project teams advising on novel and complex projects, cross jurisdictional projects with an annual capital spend of circa £280m. 

Corporate governance 

• Develop policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance with relevant legislation and best practice. 
• Assisting with the Corporate Governance cycle to include, CEO Assurances, preparation of Corporate Governance Statement, Registers of Interest, Gifts and Hospitality and Transactions, Company’s house filings. 

Communication and Stakeholder engagement 

• Develop strong relationships with staff across the business, including the Executive team, to ensure good understanding of their priorities and to encourage staff to work closely with the legal team to minimise risk. 
• Support the General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel in liaising with DfI on all matters pertaining to the Corporate Governance Framework and Partnership Agreement. 

Risk management 

• Be proactive and fully involved in risk management, advising the business on options and opportunities to mitigate risk. 
• Promote legal compliance throughout the business. 
• Consider risks and prepare and deliver training to the business to reduce the risks. 

Commercial role 

• Drafting and negotiation of complex and high value commercial agreements. 

Financial Management role 

• Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas like the annual report and accounts, companies house submissions, budget management and contract management for the crown commercial services framework; 
• Oversee work allocation across the team and take decisions as to how to resource the work (insourcing/outsourcing), balancing cost with expertise, obtain and negotiate budgets with external legal providers for complex capital projects.

What You Need To Succeed

As the Senior Company Lawyer you will;

• Be a qualified solicitor, holding or capable of holding, a Northern Ireland practising certificate, with at least 5 years post-qualification experience. 
• Demonstrable experience (minimum of 2 years) of providing strategic and business orientated legal and risk mitigation advice and solutions, either in an in-house legal role, or as an external legal advisor to a large complex organisation. 
• Demonstrable experience (minimum of 2 years) in the successful delivery of; 

  (i) high value or high-profile legal disputes or challenges (ii) or complex and high value legal transactions 

   

   

   

  Proven ability to build trusted relationships and effectively communicate with, influence at senior management level. 

  Ability to delicately manage sensitive and confidential matters. 

• Experience in commercial property/developments/estates matters (not solely domestic conveyancing) is desirable.

This role covers the full life cycle of financial management and budgeting as well as performance management and process improvement.

Your New Role

As the Finance & Operations Manager, you will have responsibilities primarily across Finance, Management and Process Improvement.

Finance Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the management accounts preparation, including and not limited to detailed analysis of fee earner utilisation, WIP & AR analysis by department, billings and collection review, revenue analysis preparation.
• Cash flow reporting on a weekly basis.
• Ensure timely processing of day to day transactions with the support of a finance assistant.
• Balance sheet reconciliations for month end reporting & bank reconciliations weekly.
• Preparation and submission of VAT & VIES returns.
• Compliance with Law Society Solicitors Account Regulations.
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements for year-end audits.
• Ad hoc projects as required.
• Ad hoc requests from fee-earners, business heads and partners as required.
• Credit control.

Management Responsibilities

• Analysis and support for decision-making to the Partners of the Firm and Senior Management Team.
• Overseeing and supporting a finance assistant and support staff ensuring appropriate allocation of tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively on recommendations for the business to the Partners.
• Interaction with auditors and supervision of members of the finance and admin team.
• Supporting the Senior Managers in the HR function.
• Work with our outsourced IT and case management teams on implementation of system and new process projects.
• Provide support and input to annual budgeting and reforecasting processes.
• Working directly with the heads of business areas on each of their budget area.
• Supporting the Partnership in the day to day running of operational aspects of the Firm (e.g. setting fee earner targets, identifying and allocating resources, procurement, providing input as required to pitches and tenders).
• As part of the HR function, to provide input for salary review, bonus submissions, promotions, recruitment and integration, performance reviews.

Process Improvement:

• Identifying areas where business performance within the Firm could be improved and work with the Partners to compile business cases for change projects and process improvements.
• Acting as firm sponsor as required for process improvement projects, ensuring that the appropriate skills are deployed in order to bring about the required improvement in processes, technology and/or working practices.

What you’ll Need To Succeed

As the Finance & Operations Manager, you will hold the below criteria;

• Qualified accountant (CPA, ACA or ACCA) with 3+ years PQE OR a Part-qualified with 5+ years responsibility for finance and practice management in a firm of solicitors, with strong knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Legislation.
• Strong finance and analytical skills, including experience of providing monthly management accounts.
• Experience of working with solicitors accounts preferred. 
• Strong experience of working with Excel and manipulating large amounts of data.
• Strong and confident communication skills, both orally and in writing, with the ability to interact with senior members of the business and build strong working relationships.
• Experience in handling human resourcing processes including recruitment and performance management.
• Organised and able to handle multiple demands and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to convey complex financial and accounting concepts in a clear and straightforward manner.
• The ability to work collaboratively with the business and challenge where appropriate.
• Experience in budgeting and forecasting discussions with senior business managers (experience gained in a professional services environment and with implementation experience of Practice Evolve would be a strong advantage).

As the Senior Associate Solicitor on the Employment Law team, you will help clients realise their potential in their people and navigate their strategic HR and legal issues.

You will advise on the full range of employment services:

• General employment – day to day queries e.g. disciplinaries and grievances, contracts and policies, flexible working, maternity rights, discrimination and support on larger projects such as restructures and redundancies.
• Employment litigation – defending Employment Tribunal claims made against employers (e.g. unfair dismissal discrimination, whistleblowing, equal pay), bringing high value Employment Tribunal claims on behalf of individuals and supporting with dispute resolution through mediation/ arbitration.
• High Court litigation – restrictive covenant litigation, team moves, obtaining/ resisting/ enforcing injunctions, claims relating to misuse of confidential information.
• Trade Unions/Collective – advising employers on all aspects of industrial action, collective consultation, union recognition and works councils.
• Transactional support – supporting on the employment aspects (including due diligence and TUPE) of M&A, divestments and outsourcings.

• 5 to 8 years’ post-qualification experience in an Employment team. Ideally you will be dual qualified and have experience in Employment Laws in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
• Deep technical knowledge of most of the employment areas listed above.
• Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills as well as strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable with taking responsibility for work output, working autonomously and dealing directly with clients.
• Experience supervising junior lawyers is helpful.
• An ambitious, proactive, curious, commercial, responsive attitude.
• Examples of marketing and business development initiatives they have been involved with.
• Experience of acting for employer clients on both general advisory and employment litigation work is preferred.
